T-Mobile Austria, Huawei demo speeds of almost 2Gbps

24 Oct 2016

T-Mobile Austria has demonstrated ‘4.5G LTE-Advanced Plus’ technology, described as a precursor to 5G, in cooperation with Chinese equipment vendor Huawei. The pair achieved data speeds of nearly 2Gbps at a live test in Vienna by combining different technologies, including Higher Order Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO), carrier aggregation (CA) and 256-QAM. ‘This trial highlights the good and constant cooperation between the two companies and lays the foundation for a faster mobile network in Austria,’ Huawei Austria’s Erich Manzer was quoted as saying in a T-Mobile Austria press release. The first devices compatible with ‘LTE Advanced Plus’ are expected to become available on the market in 2018, with 5G devices following from 2020.
