Nepal Telecom (NT) says it is now looking to launch 4G LTE services on 15 December. The firm has submitted its work plan to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) detailing its rollout schedule, with the expectation of launching its first 4G networks in areas of Kathmandu and Pokhara. The Himalayan Times quotes NT spokesperson Pratibha Vaidya as saying: ‘We are optimistic that NTA will give us the permission to begin 4G service soon,’ adding that NT will gradually roll out a 4G service to other cities once it is launched.
As has been previously reported by CommsUpdate, earlier this month the NTA approved NT’s application to use its existing 1800MHz spectrum holdings for 4G services. The regulator is still studying a similar application from rival operator Ncell.
