Vivo achieves 530Mbps download speeds in Sao Paulo using 3C

Telefonica Brasil (Vivo) has reportedly achieved downlink transmission speeds of up to 530Mbps using tri-band carrier aggregation (3C) technology in the Sao Paulo metropolitan area. The trial, which utilised 35MHz of spectrum from across the 700MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands, was carried out in conjunction with vendor duo Ericsson and Qualcomm. The latter company notes that its Snapdragon X16 LTE Modem – which it claims is the world’s first Gigabit-class LTE modem – supported the achievement of this milestone using 256QAM and 4×4 MIMO functionality. Vivo’s subscribers in Brazil will be able to experience the upgrade for themselves as soon as first commercial smartphones supporting this technology becomes available, the company notes.
