T-HT plans HRK2bn fibre spend to help meet 2020 goals

The chief executive of Croatia’s T-Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT) says his firm plans to invest HRK2 billion (USD296 million) over the next four years on the deployment of fibre-optic infrastructure to help the country meet EU Digital Agenda targets. Davor Tomaskovic is quoted by Poslovni Dnevnik as saying that Croatia is currently bottom of European rankings in terms of access to fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services, and is on course to miss its digital agenda goals of having half the population covered by 100Mbps services by 2020 and 30Mbps connections available to the remainder. The executive has bemoaned the ‘complex and long’ process for obtaining permits to construct FTTH networks, saying it is hampering investments.
