Nokia and STC deploy 4.5G technology across Saudi Arabia

18 Oct 2016

Nokia has announced it has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia’s leading service provider Saudi Telecom Company (STC) to deploy 4.5G technology across the country. Nokia’s 4.5G solution leverages carrier aggregation (CA) to optimise network resources and boost speeds to meet growing data demands, which have increased following the expansion of 4G in Saudi Arabia. Nokia has already completed the first phase of deployment in the cities of Mecca and Medina, and the vendor will continue to deploy its 4.5G macro and small cell radio access network and microwave packet radio technology countrywide, allowing STC to launch new services and open up voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) to more subscribers.

Nokia and STC have long collaborated and this new deal paves the way for 5G technology in the future allowing STC to take advantage of major increases in speed and capacity using 4.5G, 4.5G Pro and 4.9G technologies.
