Flow achieves 40Mbps in LTE tests ahead of November launch

18 Oct 2016

Flow BVI says it has achieved downlink transmission speeds of up to 40Mbps on a number of new LTE-enabled cell sites ahead of its planned commercial launch. A press release quoted by BVInews.com confirms: ‘Early tests are showing speeds of more than 40Mbps, with the full commercial launch scheduled for November, where speeds will be even greater in certain areas of the islands … [This] means that Flow will have the best coverage possible, and the Flow technical teams have been busy installing the equipment required to complete the upgrade of its existing [HSPA+] service to 4G LTE’.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, on 16 August 2016 the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) of the BVI awarded local mobile operators Flow, Digicel and CCT Wireless spectrum in the 700MHz, 1900MHz and AWS-1 (2100MHz/1700MHz) bands, following the conclusion of its ‘Spectrum Award 2016’ process. The TRC noted that each of the three operators was successful in terms of securing either its first or second spectrum preference.
