11 Oct 2016

The island of Tobago will soon have its first data centre via a 75%/25% joint venture between Telecommunications Services of Trinidad & Tobago (TSTT) and Eco-Industrial Development Company of Tobago (E-IDCOT), reports Newsday. The Tier 3 data centre is scheduled to begin construction in January 2017 and become fully operational by June 2018, and will offer data storage, back-up, disaster recovery and other high-end security and advanced telecommunications services to companies renting office facilities at Tobago’s new Cove Eco-Industrial and Business Park (managed by E-IDCOT), as well as other local, regional and international companies. Rakesh Goswami, TSTT’s executive VP for ‘Strategic Alliance, Enterprise and Tobago Operations’, noted that TSTT has extensive experience in deploying fibre throughout its network and for clients, as well as in building and managing data centres, adding that ‘TSTT already has international TIA certification for its Tier 3 level data centre, in addition to six high level data rooms.’
