Bitel interested in Dominican opportunity

11 Oct 2016

Vietnamese-owned Peruvian telco Bitel has said it would be interested in launching wireless services in the Dominican Republic. According to a report from TeleSemana, Bitel would target areas where existing cellcos Orange, Claro, Tricom and Viva have little or no network coverage. Bitel, which is wholly owned by Viettel, was awarded Peru’s fourth wireless licence in January 2011 and went on to launch full commercial services in October 2014. It had an estimated 2.1 million subscribers in Peru by the end of June 2016, up from 1.2 million at the start of the year.
