IFC approves USD400m loan to extend Telecom Personal 4G network

7 Oct 2016

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, has announced that it will provide Telecom Personal of Argentina with a USD400 million six-year financing package to enable the mobile operator to expand the geographic reach of its 4G LTE network. The loan reportedly represents the IFC’s largest investment in the Latin American telecoms sector to date.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Telecom Personal switched on its 4G LTE networks in the cities of Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Rosario in December 2014. At launch the cellco confirmed plans to spend around ARS13.0 billion (USD1.52 billion) on the deployment of 3G and 4G networks over the next three years, on top of the USD410.78 million committed during the 2014 multi-band spectrum auction.
