A state-funded telecom development plan for the North East region has received no interest from operators, the Economic Times writes, citing an official source. The plan comprised the extension of 2G mobile services to unserved areas and complete coverage along national highways in the circle with an estimated INR53.36 billion (USD798 million) available from the Universal Service Obligation Fund to help finance the rollout. The plan had been approved by the cabinet in September 2014, but received no bids when the tender was opened last week.
