Forthnet chosen to provide universal services in Greece

26 Sep 2016

Greek telco Forthnet, which now provides services under the ‘Nova’ brand, has been selected to act as the country’s universal service provider from 1 January 2017. The firm has said it will use satellite broadband technology to offer fixed telephony local network access and voice call services to 100% of the territory of Greece for an annual payment by the state of no more than EUR4.93 million (USD5.6 million). According to a report from Kathimerini, Forthnet must now decide whether it wants its contract to run for either three or five years. Fixed line telco OTE and its mobile business Cosmote were also vying to win the contract but lost out to Forthnet’s lower bid.
