SWAN Mobile gets new investor while parent considers BENESTRA partnership

23 Sep 2016

Slovakia’s newest mobile network operator (MNO) SWAN Mobile, which operates under the ‘4ka’ brand, is to strengthen its partnership with the national post office Slovenska Posta. The state-owned postal firm is to take a 10% stake in SWAN Mobile for EUR1 million (USD1.13 million), with an option to increase this to 20% in future, Mobilmania reports. It has also been revealed that an unnamed Czech investment firm has already acquired a 30% interest in SWAN Mobile, which was established by Slovakian ISP SWAN and had its full commercial launch in early October 2015.

Separately, Mobilmania reports that SWAN is in talks with another of the country’s ISPs, BENESTRA, over a possible tie-up which could lead to a full-blown merger. While SWAN’s focus in the fixed line sector is predominantly on residential users, BENESTRA concentrates on the business market.
