Digicel Group has received the requisite approvals from the Curacao government and the relevant regulatory authorities for the acquisition of local fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) operator TRES Networks, and is now moving swiftly to complete the transaction. Frank de Fremery, CEO of TRES Networks, said: ‘We are excited about joining the Digicel team which allows us to move forward with our plans to extend the FTTH network to other neighbourhoods on the island. This does not only enable more people to enjoy the highest quality internet, TV and telephony services, but also to enjoy them at the fastest speeds available on the island.’ As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Digicel Curacao signed an agreement to acquire TRES Networks for an undisclosed sum in March 2016.
TeleGeography notes that TRES Networks was originally commissioned as Santa Barbara Utilities, for the purposes of providing services exclusively in the Santa Barbara area, but extended its reach to pass approximately 55,000 residential homes and nearly 5,500 businesses. TRES, which launched on a commercial basis in October 2010, offers maximum download speeds of 25Mbps.
