NuRAN, Globe complete TVWS trials in the Philippines

16 Sep 2016

NuRAN Wireless has announced the successful conclusion of a TV White Space (TVWS) trial for wireless backhaul with Filipino mobile network operator (MNO) Globe Telecom. NuRAN Wireless confirmed that it has been working with the MNO for eight months, assessing the viability of using the TVWS UHF spectrum, often referred to as the buffer channels between the active ones in the VHF/UHF spectrum, as a wireless backhaul for broadband propagation in different locations throughout the Philippines. The trials were reportedly carried out in Cebu and Bohol. NuRAN’s product focuses on UHF bands from 470MHz to 698MHz and achieved peak speeds of up to 10Mbps over distances up to 12km. The vendor confirmed that it will now begin rolling out units in 2016 for broadband public access.
