MTN SA mulling shutdown of mobile money service

MTN South Africa has stopped signing up new Mobile Money customers, as it is in the process of reviewing the service, Fin24 reports. Chief Consumer Officer Larry Annetts was cited as saying: ‘MTN is currently in discussion with all relevant stakeholders to explore the feasibility of continuing with this service … Furthermore, MTN can confirm that the platform is not available for new customers’. MTN’s Mobile Money platform – which was launched in 2012 – has approximately 140,000 customers, down from two million users in 2014.
