31 Aug 2016

Liberty Global’s Belgian subsidiary Telenet has signed a network modernisation contract with ZTE of China for the supply of a new UniRan radio access network. The deal covers the replacement of 2G base stations and the optimisation of both indoor and outdoor 3G, 4G and 4G+ coverage, and will allow Telenet to accommodate its mobile resale customers which are currently served under a MVNO arrangement with Orange Belgium. Telenet acquired mobile operator BASE Company from KPN for EUR1.325 billion (USD1.5 billion) in 2015 and says it is now focused on establishing itself as a converged operator.
