nbn, the company overseeing Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) project, is reportedly working with technology partner Nokia on trials of XG-FAST technology, according to The Australian. It is understood that a lab trial of XG-FAST, the latest iteration of G.fast, is designed to test the feasibility of the technology to deliver faster speeds over the fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) infrastructure element of the NBN. nbn’s chief technology officer Dennis Steiger was cited as saying of the matter: ‘XG-FAST could offer us a much faster and cost effective way to deliver multi-gigabit speed to premises on our network, aside from trying to connect them all to fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) technology.’
