Broadband Infraco curbs losses in FY2016

State-owned telecommunications infrastructure provider Broadband Infraco has reported its financial result for the year ended 31 March 2016 (FY2016), with revenue climbing to ZAR452 million (USD31.5 million), up by 24% from the ZAR366 million reported in FY2015, TechCentral reports. The operator posted an operating loss of ZAR100 million, up 62% year-on-year on the ZAR260 million operating loss in FY2015, while net loss amounted to ZAR91 million (USD6.33 million), a significant improvement from the loss of ZAR245 million in the year ago period. Chief Financial Officer Ian van Niekerk revealed that EBITDA for the period under review was positive, with EBITDA margin of 7% at March 2016.

In operational terms, the company – which manages infrastructure rollouts to underserved areas on behalf of the government and has roughly 15,000km of fibre-optic cabling – said that it has increased its customer base to 23 anchor clients, up from 18 in March 2015 and one in 2012.
