Cyfrowy Polsat and Polkomtel launch 300Mbps LTE

25 Aug 2016

Polish telecoms group Cyfrowy Polsat has launched 300Mbps LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) mobile data services for its own customers as well as those of its subsidiary cellular operator Polkomtel, which operates under the Plus brand. The speed upgrade has been carried out using carrier aggregation technology to combine spectrum in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands. Services are being marketed under the banner ‘Internet LTE Plus Advanced’ and are available to both private and business users. The telco says the upgrade also provides improved network stability and increased capacity.

According to Polsat, LTE Plus Advanced has been made available in ‘dozens of locations’ throughout Poland, offering coverage of around two million people. The firm says approximately 125,000 customers currently have devices which can access the new 300Mbps services, with enabled devices including 19 smartphones, three routers and two tablets.

Cyfrowy Polsat is owned by Polish billionaire mogul Zygmunt Solorz-Zak and operates via a number of subsidiary companies, including Polkomtel/Plus and Aero2/CenterNet. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Polkomtel is Poland’s fourth largest cellco in subscriber terms, with around 19% of all users.
