Bangladeshi cellco Robi Axiata and Chinese technology partner Huawei have completed a 4G LTE trial run which demonstrated download speeds of over 71Mbps using the Huawei P9 Plus user device at Robi’s corporate offices in Gulshan. Robi – which has agreed to merge with rival Airtel Bangladesh – is readying its network for upcoming 4G spectrum licence allocations which are hoped for by the end of the year.
Elsewhere, Bangladeshi state minister for telecom, Tarana Halim, was quoted by the Daily Star as saying that state-owned mobile operator Teletalk will be ready to launch 4G LTE alongside its private sector rivals next year after it addresses its network shortcomings. Halim added: ‘I know there are lots of problem with Teletalk especially in the network segment, and I guarantee you within one year these problems will be resolved.’
