China Telecom enlists Nokia for 4G expansion

15 Aug 2016

China Telecom has contracted Finnish vendor Nokia to deploy 4G technology in 19 provinces to expand the cellco’s coverage and capacity to meet growing demand. Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy its Flexi MultiRadio 10 base stations and provide its Global Services – including project management, network design and installation – as well as its NetAct optimisation solution. The upgrade will lay the foundations for the cellco’s planned launch of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) in 2017, whilst also paving the way towards the introduction of 5G further down the line.

The rollout covers the following 19 provinces: Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Heilongjiang, Hebei, Henan, Sichuan, Anhui, Liaoning, Guizhou, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia.
