Magyar Telekom outlines network expansion plans

Magyar Telekom (MTel), the Hungarian subsidiary of telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom, is aiming to deploy its high speed fixed broadband services to an additional 200,000 households by the end of this year, the Budapest Business Journal writes. CFO Janos Szabo said that the company is now focusing on developing fixed-line capacities in Budapest and the surrounding area, with broadband speeds of at least 30Mbps available to 410,000 households, thus bringing the number of households with broadband access to 2.5 million. In regards to 4G services, the executive revealed that MTel’s 4G LTE network is currently accessible in 2,800 communities, equivalent to an outdoor coverage of 98% of the population. 4G+ service, meanwhile, are offered in 13 cities via a network grid comprising 190 base stations.
