Infratel Italia, the infrastructure arm of the Ministry of Economic Development, has unveiled the next phase of its national broadband tender, which is worth EUR1.255 billion (USD1.391 billion). Infratel – the implementing body of the ‘Banda Larga’ and ‘Ultra Larga del Governo’ plans – seeks bidders to deploy high speed infrastructure capable of covering a population of more than 5.5 million across 3,710 municipalities. Areas due to be connected include Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta, Liguria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Umbria, Marche, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata, Sicily and the Autonomous Province of Trento. The deadline for applications is 30 September 2016.
