Rostelecom plans five-year investment of up to USD4.5bn

Russian nationwide fixed line operator Rostelecom plans to invest up to RUB300 billion (USD4.51 billion) in the upgrade of its network infrastructure in five years, reports Telecompaper, quoting its president Sergey Kalugin. The operator has scheduled the deployment of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) technologies during the period, with some RUB60 billion earmarked for the NFV rollout alone (whilst the estimates for the total budget range from RUB200 billion to RUB300 billion).
