Dutch telecoms group KPN has reported revenues of EUR1.676 billion (USD1.843 billion) for the three months ended 30 June 2016, down 3.7% from EUR1.741 billion in the year-earlier period. EBITDA for the quarter climbed 1.9% to EUR579 million, while operating profit surged 21% year-on-year, to EUR205 million, driven by lower depreciation and restructuring costs. CAPEX for the second quarter was reported at EUR312 million, up 2% from EUR306 million in the year-ago period.
In operational terms, KPN reports that its subscribers attributed to its ‘Consumer Mobile’ division increased 2.1% on an annual basis, to 5.226 million, while the number of ‘Consumer Residential Households’ dropped 2.1% to 3.684 million. Of this figure, 944,000 were said to be fixed-mobile accounts, while the remaining 2.740 million were fixed-only subscriptions. Encouragingly for KPN, its triple-play user base jumped 11% on an annual basis, to 1.694 million.
KPN CEO Eelco Blok commented: ‘The execution of our strategy ‘Simplify, Grow, Innovate’ we presented in March is firmly on track. In the second quarter of 2016 we again saw strong growth of our bundled services, delivered over our best-in-class networks and supported by continued product innovations. We launched a 4K TV pilot in the Consumer market and introduced our managed hybrid cloud proposition in the business market’.
