Ukrtelecom improves H1 figures

26 Jul 2016

Ukraine’s dominant fixed line operator Ukrtelecom, owned by the country’s largest conglomerate SCM, has posted a 1.1% year-on-year increase in revenues to UAH3.350 billion (USD133.3 million) in the first half of 2016, whilst EBITDA grew 2.4% to UAH969.6 million, increasing the EBITDA margin slightly, by 0.3 percentage points to 28.9%. Net profit grew 26% y-o-y in H1 to UAH178.0 million, despite 72% higher CAPEX spending of UAH113.2 million in the six-month period as the telco began to ramp up its next-generation project to deploy faster GPON and VDSL access networks. Fixed broadband subscribers were reported as ‘more than 1.6 million’ at 30 June 2016, assumed to be little changed from 1.63 million reported one year earlier, whilst IPTV (‘Interactive TV’) subscribers grew by around 70% to 77,000. In fixed telephony Ukrtelecom reported ‘nearly 6.1 million active lines’ at end-June, down from the 6.3 million active fixed lines it counted at end-March, whilst the figures appeared to show a sharp drop from the 7.20 million lines reported at end-December 2015 (down from 7.99 million at end-2014), although it was unconfirmed whether the latest line counts included all business and residential accesses.
