Vodafone CR launches VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling

25 Jul 2016

Mobile network operator (MNO) Vodafone Czech Republic has launched live testing of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) and Wi-Fi calling technology in its network, noting that the latter can be tested through a special application on devices that do not typically support this type of platform. The cellco is the first operator in the Czech Republic to offer such calling services ‘on a massive scale’, its VP for consumer services, Petr Dvorak, says. Equipment partner Ericsson is supplying its IP Multimedia Subsystem, with Call Session Control Function, Multimedia Telephony Application Server, and Session Border Gateway – and Ericsson Wi-Fi Mobility Gateway, User Data Consolidation and related professional services. Vodafone’s Czech unit first launched commercial 4G LTE services in July 2013 and currently offers the advanced service via spectrum in the 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands.
