Italian ISP Tiscali has signed a broadband internet partnership agreement with Enel Open Fiber (EOF), a new vehicle set up by utility firm Enel to roll out a nationwide fibre-optic network. Tiscali says the partnership will enable it to offer ultra-broadband services to its customers with download speeds of up to 1Gbps. EOF is planning to deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure to around 80% of premises in urban areas. Meanwhile, Tiscali is pushing ahead with the rollout of its own fixed-wireless TD-LTE equipment in so-called digital divide areas. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Tiscali had 535,000 retail broadband subscribers at the end of March 2016.
