20 Jul 2016

The Indian government has spun out the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) from the Ministry of Communications, establishing it as a ministry in its own right, the Economic Times reports. DeitY will now become the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, under former telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and will work in parallel to the telecom ministry. The new electronics and IT ministry’s remit covers, amongst other things, the government’s Digital India programme and e-governance projects.
