19 Jul 2016

Telecom Personal of Argentina has requested a loan from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, in order to expand the scope of its in-deployment LTE network. According to an IFC filing, the total project cost for the period 2016 to 2018 is estimated at USD600 million by the telco. The proposed IFC investment consists of an A Loan of up to USD100 million and a mobilisation from B Lenders/Parallel loans of up to USD400 million. A decision is expected in early August.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Telecom switched on its 4G LTE networks in the cities of Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Rosario in December 2014. At launch the cellco noted that it will spend around ARS13.0 billion (USD1.52 billion) on the deployment of 3G and 4G networks over the next three years, on top of the USD410.78 million committed during the 2014 multi-band spectrum auction.
