Deutsche Telekom (DT) and Germany’s Senate Department for Economic, Technology and Research have announced that they are cooperating on the development of a 5G test bed in the capital Berlin. The network will enable enterprises, start-ups and organisations to trial a range of 5G innovations, applications and communications devices in real time through to 2020. According to the Berliner Morgenpost, the network will be located at the former Telefunken-Hochhaus building on Ernst-Reuter-Platz in Charlottenburg and can cover a radius of about one kilometre.
In March last year DT launched its ‘5G:haus’ laboratory for the development and standardisation of 5G technology in cooperation with research companies, start-ups and global network infrastructure equipment vendors, including Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, ZTE, Qualcomm and Huawei.
