8 Jul 2016

Tigo Paraguay has drawn up a business plan that envisages investments of USD617 million over the next five years, BN Americas reports. Going forward, the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) may finance up to USD70 million of the USD165 million CAPEX set aside for 2016, which will chiefly be used to continue expanding the cellco’s 3G and 4G networks.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Tigo launched 4G services in 20 cities on 7 April 2016 after paying USD45 million for a 2100MHz/1700MHz AWS spectrum permit in December 2015. Tigo plans to achieve 40% population coverage by end-2016, rising to 66% by 2020 (equivalent to 250 locations throughout the country).
