8 Jul 2016

open eir, the wholesale division of Irish full service telco eir, has revealed that its fibre broadband network became available to more than 22,000 additional homes and businesses during June 2016. Noting its commitment to ‘deliver the most extensive high speed fibre broadband network in Ireland’, the operator confirmed that 57 cabinets have been added onto exchanges already on its fibre network, extending the fibre reach in 45 communities, with download rates of up to 100Mbps now available to all premises connected to these cabinets and up to 2km away. Moreover, 58 communities have been added to the fibre network for the first time, enabling homes and businesses connected to these exchanges, and within 1.5km, to access broadband speeds of up to 70Mbps. open eir expects to add a further 26,000 premises to its fibre network during July.
