Beeline launches 4G in Kazakhstan

Kazakh mobile operator KaR-Tel, which trades under the name Beeline, has announced the commercial launch of 4G LTE services in the cities of Astana, Aksai and Uralsk. Trial services were introduced for 25,000 customers in the three cities in March, with the network in Almaty utilising the 2100MHz band and those in Uralsk and Aksai using 1800MHz frequencies. By the end of this year the cellco plans to cover a further eleven cities: Almaty, Shymkent, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Aktau, Atyrau, Kostanay, Pavlodar, Semey, Zhezkazgan and Satpaev. The firm expects to be covering 70% of the population by end-2017. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, VimpelCom subsidiary Beeline is Kazakhstan’s second largest mobile provider by subscribers, with a 36% share of the market at the end of March 2016.
