nbn announces commercial launch of HFC-based wholesale service

nbn (formerly NBN Co), the company overseeing Autralia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) project, has announced that its first commercial services based on HFC technology are now available to Retail Service Providers (RSPs) in Redcliffe, Queensland. In a press release confirming the development the company has confirmed that around 18,800 premises are now classified as Ready for Service (RFS), with those in the area able to order a HFC-based NBN service from RSPs, who will be able to access peak wholesale speeds of up to 100Mbps/40Mbps.

Looking ahead, nbn has said it now expects to have 875,000 HFC premises RFS, with 200,000 of those end-user premises set to be activated by June 2017.
