Orange acquires Moldovan ISP Sun Communications

French telecoms group Orange has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the share capital of Moldovan cable provider Sun Communications for an undisclosed sum, subject to customary regulatory approvals. The acquisition will allow Orange – which is the country’s leading mobile provider with more than two million subscribers – to enter the fixed and Pay TV services market and transition towards converged services.

Established in 1993, Sun Communications is the largest cable company by subscribers in Moldova Sun Communications offers cable TV, broadband and VoIP services to roughly 138,000 subscribers in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul. Its DOCSIS 3.0-enabled HFC network meanwhile is capable of delivering maximum download speeds of 300Mbps in Chisinau and Balti.
