Azercell expands 4G footprint in Baku, Absheron

21 Jun 2016

Azercell, Azerbaijan’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, installed a total of 177 new LTE base stations in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula in the first five months of the year to meet rising demand for high speed mobile data services. The cellco, which is owned by Sweden’s Telia Company, revealed that the total number of 4G base stations in the area has reached 480, providing LTE network coverage to 79% of the capital and Absheron. Maximum data speeds of up to 100Mbps are currently on offer in these locations, and Azercell says it plans to expand its LTE service – first launched in Baku in June 2012 – to other regions in the future.
