Telefonica, Vodafone Spain expand 4G coverage

Telefonica Espana, which provides services under the Movistar banner, has revealed that it now offers 4G LTE coverage to approximately 95% of the population, according to a report from ADSL Zone, citing information from the operator. Telefonica notes that its 4G network is now available in 3,596 Spanish municipalities, with 5,000 cell sites connected to the 800MHz band and a further 2,500 to be added by the end of the year to take 4G coverage to 96%.

Vodafone, meanwhile, claims that its LTE network will reach 95% of the population by 30 June; the network is currently available in 3,000 municipalities, of which 2,000 have improved indoor reception. Vodafone reportedly has more than 5,500 cell sites connected to the 800MHz band, over 8,000 connected to the 1800MHz band and around 1,500 sites connected to the 2100MHz and 2600MHz bands.
