Auction for defunct CDMA firm Zheti Mobile being held this month

7 Jun 2016

Kyrgyzstan is relaunching an auction for defunct CDMA company Zheti Mobile, which until last month operated small-scale CDMA services under the 7Mobile banner, based on the restructured assets of bankrupt CDMA operator Aktel (Fonex). A report from Tazabek cited by Telecompaper says that the auction will take place on 13 June 2016 with an initial price for an ownership stake quoted as USD2.295 million. TeleGeography notes that previous sale attempts for the former Aktel assets failed in June-July 2015, whilst on 7 May 2016 the Kyrgyz economy ministry posted a notice on its website announcing a new public auction for the sale of Aktel’s former base stations and other telecommunications equipment with a starting price of KGS47.664 million (USD697,000), scheduled for 24 May 2016, although results of this auction were not announced.
