Vivo to axe VoIP service Vono in September

Telefonica Brasil (Vivo) will discontinue its ‘Vono’-branded VoIP service on 30 September this year, it has been revealed. The product, which was launched in 2005, was inherited by Vivo following its EUR7.5 billion (USD8.2 billion) acquisition of Brazilian fixed line rival Global Village Telecom (GVT) last year. The company has not explained the reasons for discontinuing the platform, or how many customer accounts will be affected. Any top-ups made after 1 April will only be valid for 30 days, but sales will still be permitted until 30 August.
