TDC begins DOCSIS 3.1 rollout to offer 1Gbps speeds

20 May 2016

Danish telecoms group TDC has kicked off the deployment of DOCSIS 3.1 technology across its YouSee cable network infrastructure. The high speed service will eventually enable TDC to provide 1.4 million households with broadband speeds of up to 1Gbps. Rollout began in the town of Lejre in Zealand, where around 900 homes are able to access the HFC network. The work is being carried out in partnership with Chinese equipment vendor Huawei, and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2017.

YouSee launched broadband via its coax network in the autumn of 2000, initially offering a 70kbps connection. Since then the available speed has gradually been increased with the build out of new hardware and new technical standards. During 2010 the cable infrastructure was fully upgraded with DOCSIS 3.0 technology.
