9 May 2016

Icelandic mobile operator Nova has launched fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services over the network of infrastructure provider Gagnaveitu Reykjavikur (GR). The company now offers capped broadband access for ISK3,990 (USD32) with 100GB of data allowance and ISK5,990 (1,000GB); additional 100GB of data is priced at ISK990. Nova also markets triple-play packages – bundling VoIP telephony services, broadband access with download speeds of up to 500Mbps and IPTV services.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, GR’s network covered 100% of households in the Reykjavik area by the end of 2015; the company is understood to also have entered into agreements with several municipalities – Seltjarnarnes, Akranes, Hveragerdi, Hella and Sphere Court – to deploy local fibre-optic networks in South West Iceland.
