Telecom Italia says it has now deployed fibre infrastructure in around 1,100 municipalities across Italy, passing 45% of households. The firm says it is looking to reach 84% coverage with its fibre-enabled networks by the end of 2018. Meanwhile, the telco says its 4G LTE mobile broadband network is now available in 6,300 communities, offering 91% population coverage, with this figure expected to rise to 98% within three years. Telecom Italia now offers all services under the unified TIM brand which was previously used solely by its mobile unit. Download speeds of up to 1Gbps are offered via the fibre infrastructure and up to 300Mbps on the LTE system, although these peak speeds are currently only achievable in certain areas.
