nbn launches wholesale broadband satellite service commercially

29 Apr 2016

nbn (formerly NBN Co), the company overseeing Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) project, has announced the commercial launch of its wholesale broadband satellite service, ‘Sky Muster’, saying that it expects the new services to help bridge the digital divide by enabling fast broadband access for around 400,000 rural, regional and remote Australians. The company noted that since the satellite was sent into space last year it has conducted ‘extensive testing and monitoring’ on both it and ten ground stations, including end-user trials to around 200 homes in regional and remote areas, with nbn claiming that average speeds of 25Mbps downlink and 5Mbps uplink have been delivered.
