Mexican media giant Grupo Televisa, which is a major player in the country’s telecoms sector via its ownership of Izzi Telecom, Cablevision (TVI), Cablecom, Cablemas and Telecable, has reported net sales of MXN21.741 billion (USD1.256 billion) for the three months ended 31 March 2016, a 9.5% increase year-on-year. Cable-specific revenues increased 13.5% from MXN6.715 billion to MXN7.621 billion in the period under review. The most recent figure was equivalent to 34.2% of the group’s top-line sales for the quarter.
In operational terms, Televisa’s consolidated broadband revenue generating units (RGUs) increased to 3.147 million, while voice RGUs climbed to 1.969 million and video customers increased to 4.153 million. As such, total RGUs jumped from 7.920 million in 1Q15 to 9.269 million a year later.
