MTN Irancell considering expansion into fixed market

25 Apr 2016

A report from Iran suggests that South Africa-based MTN Group is looking to expand its presence in the Iranian telecoms market. The Tehran Times writes that MTN is looking to use its local operating unit MTN Irancell to roll out fibre-based broadband and IPTV services. Irancell, which is 49% owned by MTN Group, currently limits its activities to the country’s mobile market, where it is the second largest operator behind state-owned Mobile Communication Company of Iran (MCI). MTN Irancell had 46.6 million cellular subscribers at the end of March 2016, up 1% from end-2015.
