Hi3G Access Sweden (operating under the 3 [‘Tre’] brand) has jointly announced with vendor partner Nokia that it is preparing to launch time division LTE-Advanced (TD-LTE-A) mobile broadband technology using 2600MHz (band 38) spectrum to increase bandwidth and data speeds with a particular focus on meeting demand from mobile device usage in the home. Nokia said it will ‘complete’ the network deployment including Sweden’s second largest city Gothenburg in the first half of 2016. The Finnish technology provider adds that alongside the 2600MHz TD-LTE-A radio technology, based on the Nokia Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station, it is also implementing FDD-LTE and W-CDMA network upgrades for 3 Sweden. The cellco’s CTO Jorgen Askeroth said: ‘We are working with Nokia to tap the potential of TD-LTE-A … to launch one of Western Europe’s first TD-LTE-A deployments on band 38.’
Nokia says that it currently has ‘more than 80 commercial references on six continents for the delivery of TD-LTE radio technology,’ including the world’s largest cellco by users China Mobile, which selected Nokia as its ‘largest non-Chinese vendor’ for TD-LTE deployment.
