Vodafone CR introduces 4x4 MIMO LTE-A in Karlin, Prague

1 Apr 2016

Vodafone’s Czech subsidiary has announced that, working in cooperation with Huawei of China, it has launched LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) services in the Karlin area of Prague based on 4×4 MIMO technology. The cellco confirms that the upgrade – which effectively combines the signal of four transmitting or receiving antennas, simultaneously on the side of transmitter and receiver – will double maximum data speeds and provide a more stable signal with better coverage, particularly indoors. Vodafone CR says the Karlin transmitter is running on frequencies in the 1800MHz band, and that the 4×4 MIMO overlay will allow theoretical download speeds of up to 300Mbps. It notes, however, that at this time the availability of suitable devices is ‘currently limited’, but that this will improve as more next generation equipment comes on-stream. Vodafone deployed 4×4 MIMO technology using the Huawei B5328 modem, it said.
