Bouygues to make final decision on Orange deal by 3 April

31 Mar 2016

French telecoms giant Orange Group has announced that it has extended negotiations with Bouygues Telecom regarding a potential takeover of its smaller rival, after acknowledging yesterday that talks held between the two companies were ‘not yet sufficiently advanced’. Orange’s Board of Directors will meet again by 3 April 2016 to examine the result of these discussions, while Bouygues separately announced that its Board of Directors will meet ‘before the end of the weekend’ in order to make a final decision on whether or not to pursue the merger plan.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Orange and Bouygues entered into a confidentiality agreement in January 2016, marking the beginning of official negotiations in a deal that would reduce the number of mobile network operators in France from four to three. The potential transaction values Bouygues at roughly EUR10 billion (USD11.3 billion).
