Incumbents each submit applications for CTU’s 1800MHz, 2600MHz auction

29 Mar 2016

In a press release on its website, the Czech Telecommunication Office (Cesky telekomunikacni urad, CTU) has confirmed the receipt of applications of interest from the country’s three existing mobile operators for its upcoming auction of 4G-suitable 1800MHz and 2600MHz spectrum. At the close of the 22 March deadline, bidding documents had been received from O2 Czech Republic, Vodafone Czech Republic and T-Mobile Czech Republic, it said. Based on its initial examination, the CTU stated that ‘all the applications received fulfil the formal requirements set out in Section 8.2.1 of the announcement of tender and contain the required attachments’.

The regulator will now formally evaluate each application ahead of the likely start date for the auction proper on 27 April 2016. In total, the CTU is auctioning off seven blocks of frequency. The initial reserve price for the frequencies is CZK734 million (USD30.33 million) per allocated block.
